Our workshops for secondary school and college students help them gain a deeper understanding of home through issue-based themes, links to the National Curriculum. Students will get to know the museum through discussion and sketching, followed by an art workshop involving material experimentation and the exploration of new ideas.

All school workshops are for a maximum of 30 students. You will be able to choose your workshop time between:

10am to 12pm (with optional unfacilitated lunch space 12pm-1pm)
1pm to 3pm

Facilitated Creative Workshops

Patterns, Migration and Identity

For KS3 – KS5

What can patterns tell us about who we are? Students will connect domestic patterns around the museum with personal stories, particularly focusing on migration. A collagraph workshop will allow students to create a pattern exploring their own identities.

Gender, Equality and Activism

For KS3 – KS5

Groups will learn about activism and the power of artistic voice, exploring stories of equality in the home with a focus on women and gender, including the See Red Women’s Workshop. Students will harness collage techniques to create a poster advocating for positive change, sharing messages of kindness and care.

Costs

Workshops are:

Free for non-fee paying schools under two miles from the museum. Cancellation fees apply
£135 + VAT for non-fee paying schools over two miles from the museum.
£185 + VAT for fee paying schools.

Self-led visits are free to all schools.

All school visits must be booked in advance. Workshop bookings require at least two weeks advance booking. To cancel or change your workshop please let us know as soon as possible at schools@museumofthehome.org.uk.

Workshops cancelled within two weeks of the workshop date will incur the full cost of the workshop. Schools eligible for free workshops will be subject to a £135 charge. Please see our terms and conditions.
